Jill Wenger’s tour de force comes through her capability to physically hold down two forts: her original store Impulse and its more recent store sibling Totokaelo. In 2003, when Impulse was first opened, the underground space was an oasis and a home to casually refined designers giving women an independent and assured confidence to mix and match. From such designers of Isabel Marant, Acne and Junya Wanatabe Jil opened Totokaelo her second store in 2007. Totokaelo (in Latin meaning reaching for the stars) was a new but resounding introduction to Seattle carrying internationally forefront designers. It is an immaculate gallery space fitted with maple floors made locally, with ceiling spotlighting, brass accents and is continued all the way through to the central monolithic bar designed by Seattle architect and designer Tosh Drake. Hanging frames sit wall side to naturally hang the womenswear pieces. Jill has chosen other notable features including the leather strapped ring bells attached to the front door and the front window signage incorporating her stocklist. Stella McCartney, the MM6 line by Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens and Vanessa Bruno call this home.
