Cosmic Wonder Light Source, Spring/Summer 2009
Saturday, October 18th, 2008The Japanese label founded by Yukinori Maeda back in 1997 is an unusual and boundless universal interpretation of a fashion project delving into more of an enlightenment to clothes. He approaches the instinct of light as the main source of evoking emotion and personal expression into a person’s own character. In doing so, this interpretations can also be carried forward to the eccentric set design of which was presented for this new Spring/Summer 2009 collection. A modernist constructed setting was light-heartily communicating the boredom and uniformity of office work and attire. The way in which the models in the set are typewriting, look over books and numerous amounts of office document papers is more of a reminder of a textbook manual of how office procedures should be conducted. But who says office work should be dull? The collection is a superimposition of tailored cuff collar shirting in cream white and sea blue stripes and elongated shapes in long-sleeved blazer jackets and ruffled-layered caramel trench coats. Shimmering metallic silver and gold are a nice cosmic contrast to the relaxed yet sophisticated pleated trousers a vibrant shining purple dress was tea-cup constructed. A single breasted jacket pantsuiting and oxford shirting made a fitting end to a seemingly surreal television set that you either thought was real or a bewildering dream. The collection continues to provide a cross-layered spectrum of an exaggerated and puffed silhouette.
