What first appears to be an Asimovian store (a facade with futuristic elements) entrapped in downtown Chinatown by New York’s old city architecture in decorated pillars the aluminum silver and white interior architectural tones of Brian Janusiak and Elizabeth Beer’s Project No.8b store is one that is consummated. The introduction of this concept store, at its heights has been to unearth and expose the city’s inhabitants to both highly technical and fabric artifacts that were previously unknown to many. In a city grand scale as New York City, a store such as Project No.8b exhibits a new explorative device whereby designers with backgrounds in jewellery, object and furniture making and pivotally designing clothes all come together. Whilst Brian remains reserved about the store’s position and uniqueness in its offerings, the non-categorisation of the store – allowing customers to be immersed and sweep through the inner corners of the rectangular space the experience in itself is non-linear and multi-cultural. In featuring Project No.8b in the Store Feature section, Cultures In Between follows this up with an interview with Brian Janusiak, co-director of the store.
