With a superb disciplined skillset in dressmaking and patternmaking, honed at a young age and a continued development whilst at Ryerson University. Through his exchange at Westminster University working with Alexander McQueen in London, Canadian designer Jeremy Laing commits his articulate work to the overall functionality and composition that to him having, ‘Simplicity but also a complexity, primarily in the construction’. This grounding complexity is reflected in his approach to a sense of meticulous tailoring, combining traditional couture and exquisite patternmaking techniques that results in strong geometric shapes and forms; primarily in the construction of his designed dresses and slinged well-edged garment pieces. The outcome of his work is an outreach of perfecting hands-craftsmanship of every single detail as unified and uncompromising.
