There are two major stores in Sydney that cater a full brim of the best in Scandinavian ownership: Swedish domestic homewares and fashion Funkis located inside The Strand Arcade and Miljö in Westfields’ Bondi Junction shopping complex, amongst the sea of retail fashion stores and two of whom only make Filippa K available to these southern shores. Filippa Knutsson, who has been the head designer of her synonymous label since 1998 has strived for the outward simplicity of softly-constructed, elegantly tailored pieces. Capturing the delicate lightness which permeated throughout the Spring/Summer 2009 collection, the vast and rough terrain of the Mojave Desert would act as the focal lens to a sheer, breathtaking landscape. There is certainly no austere tailoring here but cotton linen sweaters paired with lined cuff shorts, sharp lapel lined tailored blazers with cotton poplin shirts in angelic white concurs mannish dressing with effortless ease. The range for womenswear consistently focuses on the wreath of the body’s silhouette, shoulders and legs. Voile tie knot waist skirts and cuff voluminous trousers, lace pleated blouses in white, sleeveless silk dresses in royal purple that were as buttery and romantic as an off-shoulder deep v-neck knit. The overall collection for men and women characteristically implores a notion of autonomous lifestyles with a considered and sophisticated edge.
