SUMMARY
Christian Wijnants is a Belgian born designer who studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp from 1996 to 1999. His work is a display of richly diverse layered references, stemming with organic ease looking to the Far East and Africa for global inspiration. Traditional folk lore, nomadic people and tribes are translated into his superior produced knitwear which he has continuously developed since his Academy studies. Fluent fabrics and a range of sharp techniques of tie dye in decorative patterns and prints run through accentuated cut dresses and tailored pieces for women. He combines contemporary vision for a structured, effortless feminine design which draws the art movements of surrealism, dada and Belgian lacework. He has been a teacher at the Royal Academy since 2005 having previously won the Festival des Arts de la Mode de Hyères (Hyères Festival) in 2001 and the prestigious Swiss Textiles Award in 2003. Additionally, he was also a recipient of the Yves Saint Laurent award from the Assocation Nationale pour le Développement des Arts de la Mode (ANDAM) in 2006.
