Danielle St Laurent immediately captures a melodramatic, stark yet sharp tone where domestic and outside influences distill convival moments. She attunes and lends her lens focused skills onto Australian and long time New York resident Emma Fletcher’s Spring collection for 2010. Last year, having had the pleasure to meet and discuss Emma’s work with great insight and delight, she non-explicitly explained the aesthetics behind Lyell. She rather wanted to explore the brand ever since with inspirations and moods that can be non-categorised whilst remaining a timeless zeitgeist. Lyell exists in an alternative parallel that co-mingles with our current pop culturalist society. Emma art-directs her new collection by placing it within Ruckercorp’s quaint studio whereby it is largely filled with an assortment of dark wooden shelved printed literature – books on Typography and on venerable American graphic designer Tibor Kalman are visibly made. A short fringed hairstyle, knitted vests, pleated shirt blouses in silk crepe de chine, and high waist trousers, Emma continues to specially source French lace and undoubtedly a perfection for french seams manages to flourish a quality more attaining to a young Parisienne than the tomboyishness of Mary Quant.
We hope Australian New York designer Emma Fletcher will give re-birth to her business again who will take a leave of absence and a deserved break from the industry
